Context
Southwark Cathedral is an Anglican Cathedral and cultural heritage site in central London. In my role as designer, I supported the organisation in communicating its mission of being ‘A home for all’.
Audience
The historic building, parts of which date back over 1,000 years, attracts a highly diverse range of people: visitors from all across the globe cross paths with the local community in search of a historical, spiritual or cultural experience, or just a few moments of peace.
Challenge
When I joined the Cathedral, its visual language was drawing on the religious and historical roots of the organisation. To connect with its audiences, the Cathedral had to present itself in a way that felt contemporary and cohesive and reflected its liberal values.
Solution
I initiated a re-branding which was developed by Spy Studio in 2019. I implemented the new visual language into all aspects of the Cathedral’s communications as demonstrated in the following examples.
